C-the “c” stands for Christ. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for you. Jesus lived here on earth about 2,000 years ago. He didn’t die of old age or disease. He died young—for you! The Bible says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8)

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is God. When he lived on earth, he did many miracles proving this, like healing the sick, forgiving sins, and even making dead people alive again! After he died for our sins, he came back from the dead (rose again), never to die again. This showed his power even over death—he conquered death.

Jesus died on a cross. In Jesus’ days, the cross was something the government used to torture people while they died. It was the worst form of punishment at that time.

But why did Jesus die on the cross?

  • First, the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is God. Jesus forgave sins, healed the sick, raised the dead, received worship and after he died on the cross, he rose again just as he promised.
  • Second, Jesus was sinless. The angel Gabriel told Mary that the Holy One to be born would be called the Son of God. On one occasion Jesus asked the religious leaders if they could prove him guilty of sin. They could not. Jesus was sinless all the days of his life.
  • Third, Jesus died on the cross.
